Civil Engineering Intern

Public Works

Temporary (2-3 Months), Full-Time, 35 Hours Per Week

 

HOURLY RATE: $30.00 / hour 

 

The Town of Groton is looking for a full-time summer intern to assist in our Engineering Department.  

The intern will benefit from hands-on experience, technical training, mentoring with professional staff, and working in a positive, team-oriented environment.

 

POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Engineering Intern will perform a variety of tasks under the direct supervision of a Project Manager or Engineer. This role offers a diverse blend of office and field experience, ranging from assisting with the design and analysis of civil engineering projects to participating in field surveys and data collection. The successful candidate will support the department in project bidding, contractor monitoring, and storm water pollution prevention, while also gaining experience in technical reporting and public service by assisting with residential inquiries.

The schedule is tentatively set for Monday through Friday with varying hours between 7:00 AM and 5:00 PM, depending on operational needs.

 

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:

Students must be enrolled in an ABET-accredited Civil Engineering program with the goal of obtaining a Bachelor’s Degree and must have completed a minimum of one year of coursework to be eligible.

The ideal candidate is a self-motivated individual with a positive attitude and a proven drive to achieve goals. We are looking for someone with a sharp attention to detail who thrives in a team-oriented environment. This role involves field work, which could include navigating challenging terrain, consisting of steep, muddy, or rocky landscapes. Proficiency in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, and Outlook required. Entry level experience with CAD Technologies, GIS Systems, Adobe Acrobat Pro, Paint and other mapping applications is desirable.
