Job Description

EDUCATION: High school or GED; must be a minimum of 21 years of age and possess and maintain a safe driving record; OR any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities, provided the age and safe driving record requirements are met.

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

Must complete certification in First Aid and CPR within 90 days of employment; must pass the pre-employment drug screening; and must possess a valid Tennessee driver's license and F-Endorsement. JOB KNOWLEDGE: Ability to drive a multi-passenger vehicle safely and appropriately, including ability to read and interpret road signs in English; ability to read, understand, and adhere to the rules and regulations of the Federal Transit Administration and United States Department of Transportation; ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing; ability to establish effective professional relationships with customers, co-workers, and upper level staff and employees; ability to prepare concise and accurate records and reports; extensive knowledge of the operations and features of assigned vehicle(s); ability to recognize vehicle maintenance needs; ability to perform minor vehicle repairs; skilled in reasoning skills to interpret policies and procedures, maps, and route directions; and ability to administer First Aid and CPR.

  • Knowledgeable of nursing and medical practices, and ability to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide appropriate care to meet resident needs.

  • Intermediate computer skills, including ability to create documents in various programs (Word, Excel, Publisher, PowerPoint, Adobe), and navigate electronic medical record systems.
  • Ability to walk, stand, sit, bend, and stoop for extended periods of time.
  • Dexterity of hands and fingers to perform resident care.
  • Ability to lift, move, push, or pull a minimum of 25 pounds.

DUTIES:

  • Operates assigned vehicle in a safe and courteous manner;
  • Maintains defensive driving;
  • Provides a communication link between customers and staff,
  • Assists passengers, including handicapped, in and out of the vehicle; operates ramps, lifts and secure devices as needed;
  • Reads and interprets maps and driving directions to plan the most efficient route service for customers, and reads and interprets road signs in English;
  • Presents safety briefing to passengers prior to each trip departure;
  • Keeps the assigned vehicle(s) clean inside and out;
  • Maintains accurate, up-to-date records on trip sheets, customer transportation forms, vehicle maintenance, fuel purchases, incident reports, accident reports, vehicle condition reports and other records that are requested from management;
  • Performs minor maintenance tasks on assigned vehicle(s) as required;
  • Fuels the assigned vehicle(s);
  • Coordinates the schedule for major or periodic vehicle maintenance with management and staff to minimize service interruptions;
  • Responds immediately to accident or medical emergencies by notifying emergency response providers, and rendering First Aid until emergency personnel arrive;
  • Provides customers with peer counseling; and
  • Serves as a positive role model while providing transportation service.
  • Performs such other duties as may be required.
RESPONSIBILITIES: This is a responsible non-supervisory position. Duties include operating and maintaining transportation vehicles with a focus on safety and customer courtesy; performing daily pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections; performing minor maintenance tasks on the vehicles when necessary; fueling the vehicles; ensuring that periodic scheduled vehicle maintenance is completed and reported; documenting customer usage; preparing trip reports; preparing accident and incident reports as necessary; assisting passengers and handicapped customers in and out of the vehicle; providing safety briefing to customers; and providing other services as requested by management when not engaged in transportation service. WORKING CONDITIONS: Will work outdoors. Must be able to perform under stress. Sits, stands, operate lifts and walks short distances during the work day. Is subject to frequent interruptions. ­­­
