Job Description

A well-established, privately held metals recycling and automotive recycling company is seeking a Shredder Operations Manager to oversee a high-volume shredder operation at its facility. This role will lead all aspects of shredder production, downstream processing, maintenance coordination, and team performance.

This is a key leadership position within a vertically integrated operation, offering the opportunity to drive efficiency, safety, and throughput in a dynamic, growth-oriented environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee daily operations of a hammermill shredder system and downstream separation processes
• Manage production scheduling, throughput, and material flow (inbound scrap to finished products)
• Lead, coach, and develop a team of operators, maintenance personnel, and yard staff
• Ensure compliance with all safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements
• Monitor and improve key performance metrics (uptime, yield, recovery rates, cost per ton)
• Coordinate closely with maintenance to minimize downtime and optimize equipment performance
• Manage inventory of shredder feedstock and outbound products (ferrous, non-ferrous, residue)
• Partner with commercial team on buying strategies and material mix optimization
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives across operations, safety, and cost control

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in scrap metal recycling, auto shredding, or heavy industrial processing
• Prior experience managing or supervising a shredder operation (hammermill preferred)
• Strong understanding of downstream systems (magnets, eddy current, non-ferrous recovery)
• Proven leadership experience managing production teams in a fast-paced environment
• Working knowledge of equipment maintenance practices and preventative maintenance programs
• Familiarity with safety standards (OSHA) and environmental compliance
• Ability to analyze production data and drive operational improvements

Preferred Experience

• Experience with Drake, Newell, Lindemann, or similar shredder systems
• Experience scaling or optimizing throughput in a mid-size shredder environment
